3D Scanning
EIF Industries offers on site 3D scanning utilising specialised laser scanning equipment for small scale projects, and phone-based LIDAR and photogrammetry for larger scale projects.

OUR CASE STUDIES

Hanson Australia – Trommel Screen
EIF Industries received request to design and manufacture a new trommel screen, which sorts large material from small material. We took a 3D scan of the existing spare trommel on site using LIDAR and photogrammetry scanning to accurately recreate the design whilst minimising time on site, to compliment this process, measurements were also taken using digital callipers and tape measures on site for material thicknesses and to confirm the 3D scan authenticity.
Using Autodesk Inventor, we took the 3D scan and measurements, and faithfully recreated the design, producing a parametric 3D model.
This model was designed to reduce costs and to enhance manufacturability, transferring the lower costs to the customer.

Boral Para Hills – 3D Scanning
One of our customers requested for us to complete a 3D scan of one of their existing crusher assemblies, with their goal to install a new crusher in position whilst limiting the number of modifications required to suit the new crusher.
We completed the 3D scan utilising LIDAR and photogrammetry technologies, and imported the 3D scan into Autodesk Inventor for the positioning of the new crusher assembly.
A report was created of all interferences, with recommendations being made to the client with suggested remedies, highlighting our versatility in the mechanical engineering field.

Pernod Ricard Winemakers – Compressor Roofing
EIF Industries received request on a bespoke design and manufacture of a new pergola roof that spans 3.2m x 6.7m. The customer had indicated that they wanted to reuse as much materials as possible from another site, hence we took stock of those materials and what could be reused and what could not to minimise cost to the customer.
Utilising LIDAR and photogrammetry scanning, a 3D scan of the area being covered with the roof was taken to ensure that the newly designed roof would accommodate the area. This 3D scan was imported into Autodesk Inventor and a roof design was created. To ensure that the roof met and exceeded all Australian standards, both hand calculations and finite element analysis simulations were conducted to determine its suitability, including dead loads, live loads and wind loads as per AS/NZS 1170.2:2021.
Renders of the design were then produced and sent to the customer for review.

Mauri Flour – Retip Hopper
One of our bigger design jobs to date, one of our customers requested a newly designed hopper to be able to return opened bags of product used for laboratory testing to the product line to be repackaged.
Using LIDAR and photogrammetry scanning, a 3D scan of the conveyor line was created, and imported into Autodesk Inventor. A square to round hopper was developed, taking into account requirements of the customer including height and envelope restrictions. Rendering of the hopper were created and sent to the customer.
